What 중꺾마 means
Short for 중요한 건 꺾이지 않는 마음, “what matters is a heart that won't break”: not giving up even when you're losing.
Origin
On October 9, 2022 (local time), Kukinews reporter Moon Dae-chan interviewed League of Legends pro “Deft” (Kim Hyuk-kyu) and used the phrase as the YouTube video's title. Deft didn't coin it himself (Kukinews).
Spread
Deft's team DRX won the LoL World Championship that November, and on December 3, after beating Portugal at the Qatar World Cup, Korea's players held up a flag bearing the phrase (Yonhap).
Remix
In 2023 a variant appeared: 중꺾그마, “what matters is the heart that just keeps going even when it breaks” (Weekly Kyunghyang).
